Emergency Services
A trip to the Emergency Room can be an anxious time for a family. Our dedicated staff is experienced in responding to all kinds of emergency situations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Triage – Your condition will be assessed by a nurse when you arrive.
The practitioner will see patients with the most severe injuries or illnesses first. If your condition is not life-threatening, you may be asked to wait until the practitioner is available.
Below are approximate wait times for some of the tests that may be ordered during your ED visit
Diagnosis/Treatment – After the practitioner receives your test results back, they will discuss diagnosis and treatment options with you and your family. If you need to stay in the hospital, you will be moved from the Emergency Room to an in-patient room at CMH. If you are seriously ill or injured, you may need transferred to another hospital that provides specialty care.
Discharge – If you are leaving the Emergency Room to go home, you may be referred to your regular practitioner or other medical staff for follow-up care. The Emergency Department staff will answer any questions and provide you with take-home instructions. If you have any concerns after you leave, don’t hesitate to call us or the Patient Advisory Nurse Line (618) 546-2492
